The Meantime Bones Trombone Quartet was founded when the members were studying together at Trinity College of Music. The group was originally formed to compete in the Phillip Jones Brass Ensemble competition, and were subsequently runners up. Since then, the group have performed extensively in concerts and recitals around the country, playing a wide range of repertoire from early music to swingin' jazz to contemporary works.
In September 2008 they were invited to perform at the annual British Trombone Society (BTS) annual general meeting at Oundle School, where they were joined by guest soloist Mark Templeton (principal trombone of London Philharmonic Orchestra). The group are also interested in outreach and education work, and have done a number of workshops introducing a wide range of people to the trombone and music in general. In the future the quartet plans to audition for an outreach organisation, 'Live Music Now'.
The group are in the process of completing their first recording, which will consist of original quartet music and arrangements, some of which have been written by members of the group. The group have been privileged to receive coaching from several distinguished musicians including Carol Jarvis (former member of 'Bones Apart').
When the members are not performing with the group they are all busy freelance musicians who have played with ensembles including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia of the Nations, Southbank Sinfonia, LPO Future Firsts Orchestra, European Union Youth Orchestra, Orchestra Europa, Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, Britten-Pears Symphony Orchestra, Young Janachek Symphony Orchestra, National Youth Jazz Orchestra, National Youth Brass Band and the Bobby Lamb Big Band.
